VIA THE UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS’ E-LEARNING PLATFORM

Alter Ego Media, the major media group in Greece, in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, announces the launch of the supplementary e-learning program: “News or fake news? Learn to tell the difference”.

The action is supported by the European Parliament Office in Greece which, in line with the political priorities of the European Parliament for the 10th legislative term which began after the European elections of June 2024, has put the issue of misinformation high on its agenda.

The program “News or fake news? Learn to tell the difference” offers free access to anyone wishing to take the four teaching modules, which cover topics including:

  • – What is news literacy and how to become a responsible “news consumer”

  • – How to distinguish information from misinformation and fake news

  • – What to consider before reposting a news story

  • – Deep Fakes and AI literacy.

This action aims to equip those who get their news from the internet, TV, radio, newspapers and magazines to critically assess the credibility of the information they receive.

The idea was born at the newspaper TO VIMA, while the course is delivered via the University of Athens’ e-learning platform, free.elearningekpa.gr.

The programs were created by Tania Bozaninou (editor-in-chief of the newspaper TO VIMA) and Dr. Andreas M. Panagopoulos (journalist, editorial consultant to in.gr), with the participation of Stratis Angelis (journalist at TO VIMA and MEGA TV station) and Vangelis Stergiopoulos (journalist at in.gr and researcher on the TO VIMA & TA NEA historical archive).

In an era in which news is often confused with fake news and information with misinformation, it is critical that we are all able to distinguish what is news and what is not. Our being overly trusting or suspicious can lead to a public that is not correctly informed about developments.

The action includes a program addressing AI and Deep Fakes.

The Alter Ego Media program provides participants with the tools, examples and guidance they need to be able to distinguish reliable information from content they should be mistrustful of.

All those who complete the free course can request an electronic certificate of attendance on passing an evaluation test at the end of the modules.
